Interpreted languages and compiled languages parse the same exact way; a compiled language has something like 5 or 6 monstrously complicated things that run after that. Python is checking all of your syntax of the file before it runs, the only difference is that it does it as it imports packages instead of making you list them. Runtime errors (i.e. something is None) will always happen at the right line, but syntax errors can be off by a few.
Or put another way, BGT/AngelScript is really really bad at it, managing to even be worse than C/C++.
