@Vulcan, interestingly enough, the copywrite on this version is September of 19, so hopefully there is at least some work being done on the program, though as I said I've been using a much older version for a long time and been perfectly happy with it.
@MyDearWatson, I use Vlc for watching dvds, and have even used it for music playback but Winamp just has so many advantages, from quick and easy player controls, to support for a hole tonne of formats, to responsiveness and above all a really easy interface (especially with the NVDA addon)..
No libraries, best recommended this, or bookmark the other, no playlists unless you want one,e, just a very powerful plug and play player with all the best cd functions, from shuffle and repeat, to jump to time, to altering of volume on the fly.
it also has it's own equaliser and playlist edotr if you want them, but hides them handily in windows if you don't, as opposed to say windows media player with it's sprawling mess and ridiculously silly library functions.
For me a major advantage is the chipamp plugin and ability to play a lot of old game music soundtrack formats.
Don't get me wrong, I do like vlc and use it regularly as a dvd player, but for pure music playback, i much prefer winamp, then again of course, I've been using it for quite a number of years now, and so I'm very used to the way it works, obviously other people's mileage may vary.
