Haiving done it myself earlier....it is perfectly doable. THe installer was, for me, accessible and I could do everything I wanted on the live system and installing it went fine, and the system booted up great.
Now a related post install question.
Is there any way shape or form to get lightdm talking for Mate? I've somehow managed it on my desktop but...not my laptop
