To expand on the Spanish Flu name, it was called that for propaganda reasons circa late 1910s/early 1920s, and in other parts of the world that was more prevalent. Poland for instance called it, quote, the Bolshevik disease, Brazil the German Flu, Senegal the Brazilian Flu. Some sources (that both Wikipedia/Britannica don't list) have claimed the Spanish Flu name was coined to denegrate Spain being neutral in WWI, however, Spain had a free press and was able to report on it without censhorship, though.
Oh, and it gave us Edward fucking Cullen, too. Goddamnit.
