Re: Revenge Of The Undead, a new zombie shooter

Moderation:
Ironcross, I'm issuing an official caution here. If you keep this up, it's going to escalate to a warning.

So here's the deal, bro. It's totally, 100% okay to criticize a game constructively. You have issues with animal footsteps, stereo panning, etc. Totally well and good. No one should jump down your throat about that. And to my eye, Tunmi didn't do this.
Your problem, however, is that you immediately, even from your first post in this thread, tried to make it bigger than that. It wasn't just that Tunmi had some problematic game elements; to you, Tunmi was just making the same mistakes, so you just had to bring that up. And up. And up. Over and over again. He'd respond, you'd respond. He got defensive, you kept pushing. This works when you have leverage, but you don't. All it does is make you look bad; just trust me on this.
You do best when you stick to straight facts, and avoid making character judgments. Criticize the living snot out of a project itself if you want to, because obviously Tunmi still appears to have a lot to learn. But badgering him is not going to help. You have to be aware of that by now. If you keep referring to "past mistakes" and "old behaviour" and whatever else, you're going to provoke a naturally defensive response, which is antithetical to progressive discussion. Sometimes it's really important to flag behaviour patterns, but I feel like in these circumstances, you were just not the person to do this.
Your actions don't merit a warning at this point, but please rein yourself in a bit. If nothing else, wash your hands of the whole issue.

Tunmi, while I'm not going to issue you any punishment here, I want to offer you some advice as a neutral outsider.
If you make similar mistakes more than once, people may begin to feel as if you aren't learning from them. And if you make comments which appear to sidestep culpability, they may feel like you're not accepting responsibility when you should. I see this a bit, but perhaps not as much as it's being portrayed. I think the best thing people can do for you is to criticize you factually. Point out where there are problems; offer to help where they can; point out that a solution doesn't work. That sort of thing. I think the best thing you can do for people in general - and your critics in particular - is to be just a little more transparent. Listen. You're going to screw up. You're going to do something someone doesn't like, or make a mistake, or a snap judgment call. You're going to be wrong sometimes. And guess what, dude? That's okay. You're human. Welcome to the club. You don't have to be perfect. When people criticize your efforts in good faith, please try to respond the same way. When they criticize you in bad faith, my advice is to try and shake it off rather than continuing to defend yourself. While you did nothing to warrant any sort of punishment over these last few pages, you certainly didn't help this situation any. it's difficult to just let comments like that go by - trust me, I'm still working on this - but I want you to try.
Best of luck with the game.
