Refresh doesn't solve this issue. I learned that this problem is caused by thunderbird screwing stuff up. What you need to do is go to about:support from Firefox address bar.
Check for accessibility handler used under accessibility heading.
If this is false, you will need to reinstall Firefox. After that it will turn to true and Firefox will speed back up.
