open shell/classic shell question

I've had classic shell on this machine for quite a while now, and very much like it.
however, it's begun doing what it used to do on my laptop and giving me a bunch of user account error messages at startup. it actually works fine once those messages go away, but it is mildly annoying.

I'd be happy to install the latest version of open shell, however I have created a hole bunch of start menu shortcuts for different programs and games and am a little worried about losing them if I upgrade from classic shell to open shell.

Can I simply install open shell over the top of the original classic shell and maintain my start menu with all it's shortcuts? or do I need to physically uninstall classic shell, install open shell then take the time recreating them all.

this would be doable of course, but obviously if I can save myself having to rename and move about a bunch of start menu shortcuts, that would be better.

Thanks in advance.
