Well, at least he's being honest, and not covering up his intentions with a last minute moneygrab. And the replacement keys are still being made available--possibly more available than they would have been, had the game continued to sell.
But it's still a shame. It's a shame because the games are now no longer playable by newbies, and it's a shame because the collective archive of old audio games just went down another couple of notches. And yes, IMO, here's another casualty of hardware activation--without it, it might have been easier to distribute the game as abandonware.
