Follow the walls. Seriously.
I can't stress this enough.
If you're in a path that has a wall directly north and directly south of you (so you're hearing two tones constantly), then pretend like you're actually brushing along one wall. When that wall ends (either a break to the north or a break to the south) immediately follow it, and keep hugging the near wall. When the paths are one square wide, it's hard to remember which side of the hall you're supposed to be trailing, but it works flawlessly if you do that. Following that sort of guideline, the worst thing that will happen to you is that you forget which direction you were travelling in and get turned around.
And unfortunately it gets worse from here. Much of the game isn't heavily mazelike, but there are some pretty complex bits. Even someone like me occasionally gets lost. You'll either have to get used to navigating, or you'll have to give the game up; it's no
t going to get any easier, I'm afraid.
