if your hd is getting old and has never been reformated, that could be your problem. That's happened to me whare i'd have this computer and it was insainly slow, litterily in skype calls it would stutter and almost die, and a reformat fixxed everything. If you can back up your most important files a reformat isn't actually the worst thing in the world. I find in the long run it can be seriously worth it. Unless it's your media player that's not liking that section of your hd or that section is very slightly corrupt kinda like a scratched cd. Cause you'd think, if the media player was having a hard time sorting threw things on that hd, then it would really give your CPU a workout cause it had to try seeing if it could play it. Just a thought but if explorer's working fine with it that's strange. But your hd is probly just gonna start getting in your way, i'd at least recommend backing everything up, cause if it's doing this, y ou never know, next you could have a harddrive failure.
