Re: Monthly chat June 2015

Well time to get this one going methinks.

First Cae, thanks for the explanation, again insert rant on American cultural imperialism. One thing I will say about american Indian culture, is that I'd love to see more of it. Maybe it's an offense thing, but then again I find it odd that writers are quite happy stomping into the Bible, Pagan and Irish Folklaw and a hole bunch of other traditions but seem to basically treat American Indians with kit gloves all the time, ---- the only exception I can think of is Graham Masterton in his horror novels like the Manitu series and Charnel house. Indeed I find it interesting that after writing books with monsters and themes and characters based on American Indian folk law he then turns to Catholic traditions for stories like The devils of D day.

As someone who knows little to nothing about the various American Indian beliefs I'd love to see more of it.

This also bares on one thing I discussed with a friend o f mine a while ago, why the heck are American Indian characters always really boring! Honestly, if I was an Indian I'd probably be claiming sterriotypes sinse I'm pretty sure not all American Indians are dour people who just sit around looking grim and complaining about spirits and sacred land all the time, look at chakotay in voyager who was so under used the actor threatened to quit the series, a standing joke with my brother is "Captain I'm detecting an Indian cultural reference of the starboard bow"
"Chakotay you deal with it, everyone else go and take a coffee break" big_smile.

Anyway to get back to monthly chatting, I went to a concert with the Piano guys last week which was fantastic. These are a chellist and pianist who do lots of whacky stuff, including multi track nonsense. It's actually one of the instancies where someone be came famous through Youtube for their random videos, but is probably justified on ability. my only gripe is the amount of really vanilla flash in the pan pop songs they did, and I thought they were far better players and arrangers than composers given their original stuff was a bit flat, but I definitely enjoyed a lot of fun stuff like Vivaldi's double violin concerto meats the Born identity, and Koungfu pander with chopin.

This week I'm learning the tenor part of duel of the fates, which will be fun sinse this random choire are getting together to do it. I'm not usually a choire person but this will be awsome, especially if I can order some Jedi robes and a light saber.

I finished Perdido street station which was all sorts of fantastic, and extremely grim, indeed I look forward to reading more of Mievil's stuff, sinse surrealist semi steampunk with a hinge of poetry in a world with cactus people, bird people and a city where criminals are remade int o ironic forms with bio technology is just so unique!
I only wish it had ended better sinse the characters were so distinctive and the ending, while not inappropriate was really! ouch worthy.

I then yesterday listened to the Big finish companion chronicles box set which was generally really good, albeit it had one slightly duff story.

Sinse I've got a blogger profile one thing I can now do is comment on blogs made with it. Jo Ford has a great blog for reviewing doctor who, startrek, buffy and lots of other stuff (though particularly doctor who), and you can find that here Sinse I now can comment I was able to leave my thoughts for each episode in the new box set in the comments section for Jo ford's reviews which is good.

At the moment I'm contemplating which choiceofgames title to play next or whether to go and buy Yellowbonnet which I did rather like the look of. I also will be meeting a friend this evening for drinking of meed! which will be good, particularly sinse I can play the soundtrack to game of thrones in the background, hopefully nobody will get murdered along the way big_smile.
