Rory, yes, Sarah is still a paid game. Unfortunately, for you it is not possible to visit the other floors until you have purchased and unlocked the game.
As for the basilisk the only place you can find it is the Chamber of Secrets. As for how to kill it there is a couple of ways to kill it. Using the sword is only one way to do so.
