I know I'm revising an old topic, but, @Visigoth: The reason Apple doesn't want you to see the inner-workings of their system. Apple doesn't design their products with techies in mind at all. They design their products primarily for people who are looking for somethin, whether it be a computer or iphone, just to get their stuff done. So, they limit off the inner part of their devices so as to protect users from screwing things. Nice idea, but it also locks the techies outa the inner-workings of stuff unless the jailbreak. This doesn't really apply for the macs, cause you can easily get past it with sudo, but not with ios.
