Yes I think this is probably true...  I think the good performance
comes from the right oscillator with a very quiet psu.  I've seen Tent
and Trichord Research (UK) use encapsulated oscillators with dedicated
psu.  Others Audionote, LC Audio use a descrete oscillator with low
noise psu.

I suggest you look round on diyAudio.  LC audio (Lars Clausen) posted
the schematics for his older series of low jitter clock a while back
[actually the one I have in my CD transport]  Elso Kwak also posted a
descrete circut.  Tent is more careful about the info though..  There
was also some discussion about VapleyFisher oscillators on there a
while ago
