Two things to consider about mods; first, it voids your warranty, and second, often times selling a modded unit is harder than selling stock.
That said, modding can definitely give you some great results...despite the great transport performance of the SB2, my reference transport is still a heavily modded ($1300) Sony S7700 dvd player.
