Never Mind!!!  I'm an idiot.  When I played the m4a file, it must have
just gone right to the wav file, and I thought it was playing the m4a
file - no wonder they sounded the same!  :O  I got the same error, and
I thought it was just a misleading error message at the start of
play...

I'll get back to you after I install FAAD.
