No preamp - SB3 feeding straight into the power amp. They seem pretty well matched, no need for any preamp gain adjustment on the software. The speakers are Linn Keilidhs and I'd say the biggest difference is that the amps have really tightened up the bass. Top end is a lot cleaner and more detailed too but I'm waiting to get hold of a new pair of Linn treble drivers which will hopefully alow a lot more detail through. The old ones are a bit dull and grainy. There's no distortion at all, at any volume level. You can hear a slight hiss when the system is idling, but only if you're within an inch or two of the speakers. and ceratinly not audible at the distance I sit from them.
