Given the way that real IC foundries work, and from Sean's comments about his measurements of the lower cost non-KE chips, I too am skeptical as to what objective or subjective improvement a chip swap will make. The more expensive brand is guaranteed to have better measurements, the cheaper one is not guaranteed to meet the higher spec. But they all come off the same assembly line, and the key difference is that the KEs are measured to meet the spec. There is no reason to expect that non-KEs fail to meet the spec, just that they are not tested.
