An excellent question.

As long as everything goes right, it is fine. But if a component fails
in the SB3 somewhere, a power supply that can deliver much more current
than is required for normal operation may cause a lot of problems, such
as evaporated PCB tracks. In such a case, what might have been a simple
component replacement for repair becomes a throw-it-away situation.

Unfortunately, high-end audio fans are often not well educated about
electronics or audio and have a "more is better" attitude with regards
to power supplies and price. You have to be very selective about the
information you receive from such people. They often ignore safety
issues, whether they are personal or equipment safety issues, in the
relentless pursuit of better sound, forgetting that a stereo that
doesn't work sounds worst of all.

If you're looking to replace the power supply I would stay relatively
close to the spec'd current draw of the device. I might go 2X the
rated current, but I definitely would not go to 10X.
