It's certainly nothing I overtly activated, or something that can be deactivated. As with most DVD players, the only sound options are analog and bitstream, and it was on bitstream. The receiver plays back DD, DTS and PCM fine from this input, and it recognizes Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES discrete and Dolby Surround flags as well.
