Errr....no. There is only one "server" - the same piece of software
that is scanning your files is responsible for serving webpages and
everything else. Now it may be that it gets so tied up with scanning
that it stops returning pages in a timely fashion, but it's not "off".
By "turning on" the server what you're really doing (I would guess) is
restarting it. And yes, restarting it while scanning will leave it in a
mess, not surprisingly. In your situation it would seem that you can
tell when the scan is finished because the web interface starts
responding again. However, I don't consider that normal - you might
want to investigate why a scan brings your box to it's knees. The web
interface works fine during scanning on my server (and on most
people's).
