NB What follows is my opinions only :) I think In order to make the slimserver more mass market it needs partnering server hardware.
At the moment the setup is geeky, I believe what it needs is someone to provide a prebuilt server which can partner the SBx with the following basic features: 1) Installation: Take out of box and plug into mains & network (optionally have direct connection ethernet x-over) 2) Ripping: Open CD drawer and place CD in - close drawer 3) Aesthetics: Visually appealing designed to look like a piece of audio equipment it makes it a completely standalone product. Of course you'll notice that this is immediately possible, all the components are readily and cheaply available and there's evidence that the aftermarket is beginning to look at these things. There is already pre-configured NAS available. Once this is in place it becomes possible for anyone to use an SB without recourse to manuals, www.slimdevices.com etc This is what will make it mainstream.
