For what it's worth, I recently ripped a disc and converted to flac with the replaygain box checked, then converted again without replay gain and used foobar2000 to set the replay gain. The two programs were within 0.01 dB of each other on both track and album gain values. I think every piece of software that can calculate replay gain uses the same library to do the calculations so the results are going to be the same. If you find someone who wrote their own replay gain, look out!
