That would make sense in a way. Because a CD player has a much smaller
current draw than an amp and because an awful lot happens in the
digital domain, designers may not over engineer the power supplies like
they do in expensive amps and instead put in something that from an
electronics engineering standpoint is just right for that current
requirement. 

Does a massively over-engineered PSU present a more constant load on
the mains compared to a PSU that is "just powerful enough" and so not
cause momentary fluctuations as the circuits operate (ie peaks in
output)? Does an expensive cable with some capacitance compensate by
responding to these possible fluctuations better than a straight
connection to the mains?
