The big word for audiophiles is synergy. If you'd like me to recommend a synergistic two channel system for <1K here goes: DIY room treatment ala http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=79264&postcount=71 Used single driver speakers (omega or someone elses DIY project sometimes ends up on audiogon). Or if you're keen on woodwork the drivers available for under $200/pr are legion. An amp with only a few good watts, rather than 50+. The single drivers don't require lots of power, and that's where you're gonna save your dough. Some people prefer tubes, some solid state. I use a $500 Jolida integrated that's about 15 good watts, but wouldn't mind trying a solid state power (10w :) amp (Sonic Impact, Gainclone). The sonic impact has an audiophile edition that's around $175. Other audiophiles report great results with the $30 version available at Target online. A non oversampling DAC. This might help give your RocknRoll a more tolerable top end, as they're said to roll off the highs slightly. Poth audio sells the "dac-ah" for 175 shipped. Otherwise you'll be jumping to a Scott nixon or similar for around 400 used. Homemade speaker cables and a $50 used digital coax. A squeezebox, and the realization that saving to FLAC is free, just as easy, and storage space is getting cheaper everyday. I have a similar setup, and on occasion- late at night, it literally makes me cry. Mind you I'm paying my way through school as a roofer- and I'm not exactly efeminate ;) -- Skunk ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Skunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2685 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20198 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
