Based on the feedback I've received I'm taking a hybrid approach. I just bought a used McIntosh MC-2120 amp ($670 shipped) and I'm planning to buy a pair of Magnepan MMGs ($568 shipped) for the master bedroom on Monday ($238 over my original $1000 budget so not too bad). The 2120 will drive the whole house audio (and hopefully the fronts in my 5.1 room) and will go between the Denon 3802 and the Niles speaker selector. The Maggies are 4ohm speakers and the Denon can only go as low as 6ohms according to the manual so I thought it would be better to add an amp to be safe. I'm also hoping this will give me a "richer" sound in the family room driving the Monitor 9s. I'll let you know how it sounds when I get it all hooked up!
Thanks again to all who gave me valuable feedback. Much appreciated! -- zooropa320 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ zooropa320's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3420 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20198 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
