I wish I could qualify my position with experience, but I've never heard SACD in-home.
I felt compelled to grafatti that on the net, because SACD seems firmly in the camp of DRM, rootkits, itunes, etc. I just didn't realize how firmly until I got into streaming. HDCD should light the indicator on your DAC if applicable, without special measures in ripping (AFAIK). Same w/ XRCD. I only have a few HDCD's, and most aren't explicitly labeled- thus I'd doubt any decline in performance on non-compatible hardware.
