Is there any possibility that you have connected one of your speakers in reverse phase? That will kill low freq output and make the whole system sound bright.
You can easily test with a mono signal. If it sounds like it's coming from between the speakers, the phasing is correct. If it sounds like it's coming from all over the place, one of your speakers is connected wrong. Switch either one and listen again.
