Fantastic education here all around - this is by far the best thread on the subject I've ever read, I really appreciate the knowledge and experience of the people contributing, very impressive, and nice that you're willing to spend time sharing.
(I hope you all can keep it from degenerating further into a pissing match and personal attacks; there's a ton of good, valid engineering science, there are good opinions based on real-world experience, and even less informed opinion can prove educational in context - if there's a rebuttal I'd like to suggest keeping it "professional").
