Whilst I undertand what you're saying, I've got to say that I don't think you can have heard a "good" system with a "good" recording. I've got (somewhere) a recording I made of the cellist Natalie Klein playing the Elgar Cello Concerto. I used a simple pair of mics in a stereo pair straight to a DAT recorder. You wouldn't believe how realistic that sounds. Sure, "real life" is the "real thing", but well-recorded audio on a good system can come close.
