I've been an electronics tech since 1978, and I run a calibration facility which also does repairs.
I would recommend that you NOT attempt to solder SMD's without proper training and tools. It is extremely easy to totally ruin the devices you are attempting to solder. At the very lest practice on something you don't really value, such as something that is already no good, something you don't really have an attachment to.
