As far as I know the problems were with the original DAC-X and the
squeezebox 1. The sb2/3 shouldn't have any problems even with the
original DAC-X given a suitable cable however I don't have 1st hand
experience with this combo.

I did however demo an original DAC-X with sw upgrade, and it worked
flawlessly. However, it didn't work very well with either my set top
box, or my dvd player - I would get ~.5s dropouts whenever there was
some bass playing.

On speaking to cyrus, apparently there was another upgrade to the
DAC-X, which is the version I now own, and it works flawlessly even
with my £30 dvd player, which now sounds fantastic.

If you're using coax, then the cable can make a difference too. I
originally used some ethernet cable to make up a lead, and on the
latest version of the DAC-X this would result in an occaisional drop
out when the electric heater turned on or off. Now using some good
quality shielded coax and connecters, it no longer does it
(www.bluejeanscables.co.uk / .com). So perhaps better cables would
have also fixed the earlier version of the DAC-X, but it seems
unlikely.
