I was planning on using the DIP socket. I figured I'd probably barbeque
the chip itself with my Neanderthal soldering technique. I don't know
how I'll keep the glops from running together as it is.

So you've got a ReplayGain script? It's all very confusing. 

I poked around your web site, too. I'm from your Southern California
neck of the woods. I attended Cal Poly, Pomona many moons ago. There
used to be a really good record store in Claremont, the name of which I
can't remember. I'm not sure if it was there when you were at Harvey
Mudd, or not, but since you have a lot of vinyl, I thought you might
know about it. The Pomona Valley area has changed DRASTICALLY in the
last 25 years.
