i don't have personal experience with the M-audio Transit yet (going to borrow one from a friend), but i've done some research and it seems the quality of the digital output is compromised by being powered by the USB bus, which is very noisy and not low in impedance.
OTOH i know someone who has very lightly modified his M-Audio Audiophile PCI card (just added some supply bypass caps), and he feels that its digital output is very clearly superior to his (very very expensive) EMM Labs CD/SACD transport. for those not familiar with EMM Labs, "EM" stands for Ed Meitner, a man behind the engineering of a lot of professional recording gear as well as DSD/SACD technology... his gear is used by Sony for professional demos and is considered no-compromise. where the Squeezebox fits into this i don't know, also going to try this out eventually... i think if you use a good power supply and modify the digital output circuit a bit, it would be very, very good. -- dorkus ------------------------------------------------------------------------ dorkus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3373 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21474 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
