What really kills me is how often people debate the comparative
differences between bits of kit that will in reality have little impact
on the overall reproduction of music. While it is true the source
matters and its quality cannot be exceeded in playback, its is also
true that the acoustic components of the playback equation immediatly
swamp the entire reproduction experience.

Your speakers, placement and room dimensions, contents and treatment
are major, major elements of the percieved sound reproduction. It's
really silly to hear someone talking about how some DAC/preamp/amp
sounds "harsh" or "fatiquing" when the listening space is an
assymetical collection brick, glass, drywall and non-existent (open to
the rest of the house) surfaces. What folly.

After years working in recording studios and video editing facilities
I've found that it's not that hard to come up with a room treament that
has acceptable WAF and creates a decent listening space. Not ideal, but
pretty good. In such a space even commonplace, inexpensive gear can
sound very good.
