The opposite is actually true - you should run SB3 at max volume for
the best sound (this applies to both the digital and analog outputs).
Not only is noise floor lowest relative to output signal, but you also
are using the full dynamic range of the DAC on the digital side. This
is very basic stuff and easily confirmed with measurements - or simply
listen to the system's noise floor as you decrease SB3's output and
increase the receiver's volume.

The advice to run source devices at lower levels generally comes from
concerns about clipping the amplifier's inputs, or incorrectly
supposing that the SB3's output amplifiers clip or otherwise perform
worse as the signal approaches full swing. Unless you are feeding cheap
powered speakers, you don't need to worry about the output level being
too high.
