I had planned to box the sides of the screen in at the same time, and to put sockets on the wall all hidden behind a removeable panel. One of the reasons for not doing anything could be that I didn't really like the whole box thing. I've got some black 6" pvc tube so I'll give your idea a go. The bottom end can be mounted to a plate that covers the hole and the top can clip behind the screen edging.
