As my original long posting on power supplies has gone away, I'll add this one comment:
When I first got my SqueezeBox, adding a 5 amp regulated lab power supply made the biggest difference in sound quality of any single electronics change I'd ever heard to date. Since then, through a long process, I traced down my issue to persistent .575 volts DC on my AC mains line. I tried a surplus Topaz 1 KVA isolation transformer; it completely changed the sound of my system, but didn't have enough power. So I sprung for an Equitech 2RQ balanced power supply. Since adding that, I can't tell any difference between the Squeezebox with a 5V regulated power supply and the wall wart that came with it. I believe the differences people hear is due to power quality. If you have DC on your lines, it will saturate small transformers, and you will get a big improvement from a regulated power supply. If you have good quality AC power, you probably won't hear a difference. This may also account for much of the difference people hear in other electronics as well. It may just come down to how well the power supply filters out the garbage coming in. -- markgwoodruff ------------------------------------------------------------------------ markgwoodruff's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3726 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23116 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
