Anyone have any idea if the internal DAC can still get 16bits when
using server attenuation?. I know the player has to be at 40(max) to
send 16 rather than 24 bits, but does server attenuation and replay
gain affect the data differently? Sorry for redundancy if applicable.

RE: damage control

If you've got a preamp volume control you can set it to the highest
level you'd want your speakers to experience when the Squeezebox is at
max volume. Then you can use the Squeezebox at ideal levels (settings
37-40 IME)- while not risking as much harm to your speakers. Even a
burst of white noise will only be as loud as the preamp allows.

The server attenuation function is the last thing you want to rely on
if you're scared of glitching death. A good example of this is the fact
that I noticed less noise when using the skip track button after
eliminating server attenuation.
