Well,

If you basically agree that polarity won't affect the sound of a single
instrument (eg a single vocal via a single mic or an electic guitar
through an amplifier)...you must be implying that the polarity effect
is only detectable on multi-track/multi-mic recordings...

Now, we all know there is virtually no chance of true/real polarity
being preserved in such recordings...so if there is an audible
difference, it must be connected to either how the room is impacting
the sound and/or how our brain is interpreting the mixed polarity
sound.

What would really help move this discussion on is if you could point me
at some actual CD's / tracks where you notice a strong difference so
that I could try and replicate your experiences.
