Modern music?
I listen to a lot of modern music, and it sounds ok. Not really very
good, but ok. Mixing and mastering today is a joke. (The "loudness
race"..)
I tend to prefer R&B most of the time, when it comes to modern sound.

When does polarity matter?

I think you misunderstood me. I was merely stating what you say
yourself. No?
