There may be something to that... the headphone amp uses an LDO regulator from the 5V input as opposed to the higher internal voltage, because it needs more power than the DAC and op-amp rails need. Also that chip is known to be able to modulate high frequencies into the audio range (we needed to add some shunting caps when it was found that they could pick up the 2.4G emissions). Both of those are worth further investigation wrt to SMPS vs Linear question.
