Well, I'm not Phil and I'm not familiar with your gear but, in general, unless you have a pretty "good" system you will not gain much using an external DAC with the SB3. Of course, the difficult thing here is how to define "good". Better DACs tend to improve sound stage & fluidity and sound smoother, reducing listening fatigue. To benefit from this, your system should be sufficiently accurate (i.e. have a good phase response), dynamic, detailed, [insert other wooly audiophile words here]. If you have friends with DACs you could try borrowing them and seeing if you can hear any difference/improvement. The key question should be: are you happy with the sound you are getting? Only if the answer is "no" should you think about putting your hand in your pocket.
