Just a little note (as I've seen a few threads dealing with this topic) to say that I run my SB3 through a passive pre-amp and am immensely happy with the results. I needed to do this because I have a turntable and really wanted a source-switcher, and so I opted for the Creek OBH-22. I simply keep the SB3 at max volume and use the Creek remote for volume attenuation. It's crisp and clear and sounds fabbo. The output from the pre go straight into my active speakers so it's a nice little set-up I think. Only downside I guess is two remotes but it's not big hassle tbh.
