I don't think it's a fault... just that the analogue output from an Arcam Black Box 50 is going to sound considerably better than that from a Squeezebox.
There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the sound from the SB's analogue outs. I just found that when using the analogue outs with the particular amp and speaker combo I just found myself not bothering with playing music.
