I tried both the analog RCA connectors and the optical connector. After
writing my previous post, I read in another thread that an analog input
to the Yamaha is converted to digital to allow any signal processing to
take place. I would also mention that I tend to use "Pure Direct" mode
which shuts off all the AV processing stuff, tone controls and the
display.

I would guess that the Yamaha re-digitizing the analog SB3 output is
more likely to affect the sound than either the SB3's DAC or the
Yamaha's.

I haven't tried the RCA coaxial digital output as I don't have a cable
to hand.
