Reviving a thread:

I seem to think I have pretty good high-frequency hearing for someone
my age (33). As a quick-and-dirty test, both my brother and I can
clearly hear the whine of a CRT. I believe that's at 17 kHz? Anyway
neither one of our parents can. My 6-month old nephew can probably
hear a dog whistle. ;-)

High frequency sounds are weird - you "feel" them rather than hear
them, kind of a subtle uncomfortable pressure feeling.

Oh and regarding aliasing - I also see this if you're in a prop plane
and you take a look at a reflection of the prop (strangely, a
reflection, say in a puddle, not directly). The prop will seem to
become stationary or go backwards as the pilot starts or stops it and
it hits a certain RPM. Yes, our brains do seem to have a natural frame
rate/sample rate or we wouldn't notice these effects.
