I feel the pain of fellow Audiophiles that still pursue the “digital
perfection” under the continuous harassment of the mostly clueless
audio industry.
Company like Slimdevices get it (of course), other like SONY do not.
And they shall die a slow death.
But just in case SONY is reading let’s spell out what Audiophile want,
and have already paid for without getting it:
1) The ability to get higher resolution digital stream to devices such
as room correction, “ambient” decoders, digital crossovers/EQ, …. All
without ever converting to analog until is time to move some air.
2) The ability to store and stream such unadulterated digital stream
to/from a device(PC)/network of our choice
3) The ability to transcode such digital stream to more compact version
when we want to take it on the road.

Instead of SACD I would have been perfectly happy with 48/24 or 96/24
lossless compressed PCM. But what do I know?

My frustration ended since I gave up on anything other then good old
CDs. BTW two speakers only thank you very much.
While most CDs sound pretty bad and artificial (bad recording to start
with) there some that show that CD can deliver warm, natural and moving
sound. Considering that my ears do not go beyond 14khz and will only get
worse I will reconsider that 44khz will do just fine. I guess there was
a time that SONY got it right.

Now if I could only sort out the HDTV, Blue Ray, HDDVD, DVI/HDCP, Media
center, DVR, HTPC, TIVO, CableCard, SAT deal…
