I suggest connecting one of the digital outputs on your SBv3 to one of
the digital inputs on the 540R_V2.0 receiver.  I looked at the onine
manual and it has a 2ch stereo mode that will avoid the surround sound
processing.  See the online manual and look at the sections that I have
referenced for you below.

Page 8 shows that button "5" selects a stereo mode for listening to
standard 2ch stereo using analog or digital inputs and with or without
a subwoofer.  And the description for "6" mentions that an autodetect
mode is also available on the 540R_V2.0 to automatically set itself for
appropriate digital material.

Page 12 describes functions on the remote and mentions the stereo
mode.

Page 14 dedicates a short paragraph to describing the stereo mode.

Page 19 describes how to make use of the preamp output section in case
you might prefer to continue using your Yamaha stereo amplifier to
power the stereo main loudspeakers.

Page 26 details how to select among sources and how to set various
listening modes.
