With a bit of rearrangement I am able to link my Transporter direct to the power amps using existing cabling, so did not have to go through the terrors of deciding what to buy. I am able to listen comfortably with the Transporter volume set at about -30db (as reported by Michael Herger's excellent new volume control display) with no preamp in the loop.
I have to say the results are outstanding - have had one or two of those moments when you are listening to something you know really well and you hear a new sound which makes you jump as you're not immediately sure what it is. More listening scheduled for the weekend - fortuitously a 3-day holiday here. On a second issue I had been running a standalone CD player into the pre-amp for use on those discs which have not been ripped - essentially my wife's stuff - and thought I'd have to give this up when the pre came out of the system. But I just realised that if I take its optical out into the Transporter's optical in I can use the player by selecting the "Digital Inputs" on the Transporter. The volume is controlled by the Transporter. Neat. Finally I have been able to hook up headphones by taking the coax digital out from the Transporter via a (now redundant) DAC and from there to my headphone amp. By having the digital output level fixed in SlimServer I can put the Transporter volume down to zero and use the headphone amp to set the level in the phones for late night listening - and I am anticipating quite a bit of that! davep -- davep ------------------------------------------------------------------------ davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27857 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
